No word on the very much needed signal upgrades, but at least this is something.
The changes coming next spring are:
Quote:
The 7 line will get the biggest service enhancement — four new round-trip trains will run on Saturdays between 6 and 8 p.m. and another eight will be added on Sundays between 4 and 8 p.m.
Other additions include two extra 2 train trips on weeknights between 9 and 11 p.m.; an additional weeknight 3 train trip; and additions to the N, W and Q lines throughout weekdays, at peak, midday and evening hours.
I'm assuming for the N, W, and Q lines, the additional services partially stem from the delivery of R179s and the Second Avenue Subway allowing for another terminus to make turnarounds as it's the only one getting a frequency bump during peak hours.

Call me crazy, but wouldn't the additional trains/trips on the 7 line be more beneficial Mon-Fri during rush hours?
I'm with nybklyn...I won't believe it will happen either. They can't provide uninterrupted service as it is lol
Those lines are maxed out to capacity as it is during rush hour. Add more trains and basically trains will be backed up in each station for the entire length
I forgot the second part. Until then, I won't believe it will happen.
The only added service that might be difficult to do is the additional peak period trains on N, Q, W. Everything else is a light bolstering of service that don’t really hit up against the ceiling of constraints that peak period has as it’s doubtful these additions means those lines are going to hit that peak period frequency never mind above that.
The Q definitely needs greater peak frequency though as it often gets packed once it leaves Atlantic/Barclays. I’m guessing N/W is probably similar in Long Island City.
That more frequent 7 train weekend run is great news for me since I find myself going to neighborhoods along that line more often these days.

Yeah, that's true and throw in the interruptions due to whatever reason. I just don't see added lines anywhere considering there's almost always delays on every line due to signal problems, broken tracks, etc.

The new computer interlock signals on the 7 line will eventually go live. When that happens they'll be able to add more peak weekday service and make a noticeable impact (as well as avoiding failures with circa 1908 signals )
