6 hurt, 2 seriously, when out-of-control vehicle jumps curb in Brooklyn | abc7ny.com

Quote:
A driver lost control and jumped a curb in Brooklyn Thursday night, striking at least three people, including a child.

The accident happened at about 7:30 p.m. at Glenwood Road and Nostrand Avenue in Flatbush.

EMS rushed the three people struck to the hospital. Two of them are in serious condition.

Three others were treated at the scene.

In the car were handicapped driving controls. Police say at this point it appears to have been an accident.
You always have to be on alert in NYC, there just too many people that shouldn't be driving on the roads across America.

Should we lower the speed limit to 5 MPH?

Freak accidents will happen. Price of being a human.

Plenty of people with handicapped controls drive around just fine.

Now people with known history of seizures, thats a different story.

Even with Uber you still see people who have medical or social issues go behind the wheels because nothing is stopping them from taking the keys. The lady that ran over the 2 kids had multiple past violations and was still able to drive because she believes she's privileged and nobody has the right to tell her not to drive.

I hate driving in NYC because too many ubers and slow drivers. Speed doesn't kill, it's stupidity and that you can't legislate to stop stupid people from doing stupid things and winning stupid awards.

It's not slow drivers.. it's the amount of cars on congested NYC roads. The real solution will be automated cars that sync up to each other and move in coordination like a car on a conveyor belt.

I have to agree with you on that. The roads are so congested - - not to mention drivers constantly (and abruptly) switch from one lane to the other. They can never stay in one spot. That's bound to cause some kind of accident. I mean, I am sure it happens everywhere. But in New York City, that's kind of scary.

I've taken up reading travel guides recently and nobody advises tourists to drive here.

I'm speculating, but I have to wonder if many of these "out of control" vehicles and accidents reported to be caused by medical issues by the driver are actually the result of overly aggressive driving. So many people seem to be on a hair trigger these days.

Doubt it, the kids slaughtered at Prospect Park were in the crosswalk and the woman had the brake on and was waiting when all of a sudden she slammed on the accelerator. That would have to be some special kind of aggressive "driving"
