Not necessarily. I got my high paying job via my work experience and resume.
Statistically though, the Dominican community in NYC is far from affluent and has low levels of education. I can say the same about certain other minority groups, including AAs. This is a national problem.
NYCHA is not a socialist concept. It's a ghetto. Ghetto is a place where you dump unwanted people........
Essentially NYCHA is a holding ward for Blacks and Latinos.
Moses specifically bulldozed tenement housing and whole neighborhoods, and built housing projects as a part of slum clearance/Negro removal (that's what they called it at the time).
Didn't a lot of white people live in NYCHA originally?
There are very few white Dominicans in NYC. For that matter, there are few white Dominicans in the Dominican Republic.
Thats a very ignorant statement. migrations do not necessarily reflect the racial make up of the country they come from. one example is Cuba. Cuban Americans tend to be whiter than the people in Cuba by a very wide margin. Dominicans tend to be darker here, because they come from the lower layers of society.
I work with a Chinese girl who’s family has been in Cuba for over 100 years and they all speak Spanish as their first language.
Same in DR. there are bout 80k Dominicans of Chinese decent, they even have their own China Town.
lots of them move to NY but they just pass as Chinese. white Dominicans pass as white, ect
So people only notice the mixed ones and think those are the only kind of Dominican there is.
If you are ever in the heights and see a chinese-fried chicken place, do not assume its a Chinese guy trying to appeal to the local community. most likely is un "chino dominicano"
