The UES has a sh**tload of banks. get rid of some of em and maybe a traders will open up
That might because (as you say) we have a sh**tload of people up here with money, assets, and so forth. We also have plenty of businesses that require commercial banking services.
Banks aren't stupid, they open branches where there are or is potential for customers. OTOH Harlem and other low income or whatever places wouldn't see the banks they have if the federal government didn't force.

This is true, thats no bank at my subway stop....In the hood banks don't feel the need to be there.

Hood=no money. You have folks that can't even open a bank account, so they're not going to bother. In my area, we have Chase, HSBC, BoA, Wells Fargo, Capital One, and two other small banks.

Know people who work in banking including tellers and managers. So called "hood" people or others living paycheck to paycheck have accounts that are often more trouble than they are worth.
Most use their banking accounts mostly as check cashing joints. Money is deposited say on Friday (paycheck, direct deposit, etc....), and largely gone by next Wednesday. These people are constantly racking up fees (overdraft, maintenance, returned/not honored checks, and so forth), because they either do not understand how banks work (nor took the time to read the information provided when accounts are opened), and or try to run game. That is they write checks/make withdrawals hoping other withdrawals won't hit before a deposit clears/is made.
Topping it all off these persons are always at branches screaming at tellers or customer service agents to get said fees reversed. This and or again trying to run game; that is they are overdrawn, want to deposit their paycheck or whatever, but don't want the bank to take overdraft amount off the top leaving them with the balance (if any) of deposit.
Again if federal and or state laws didn't force banks to open accounts for such persons, they wouldn't.

Bugsy, people with REAL money don't need to go to bank branches often.
They have to be. The UES has a lot of senior citizens with old money, who do not like to bank online
There are also lots of children and teenagers who have more in their bank accounts than most posting on this board.
