Who cares thou. I doubt it has anything to do with Social Justice people. Not for or against Starbucks so it does not matter to me.

Reports say they are closing stores particularly in "densely penetrated markets" so NYC might be in for a few for sure....especially in parts of Manhattan where it feels like they are on every corner.

SB has been closing and or reopening smaller stores in Manhattan at least for some time. Huge store across from ABC news building shut down, but SB opened a smaller place few blocks away.

Starbucks also has drastically cut back hours at many locations if not all. Used to be at least one or two in an area were open until 11PM or so; now most are closed by 10PM.

This shouldn't come at a surprise. I already raised this concern on the thread made when Starbucks decided to treat non-customers better than gold members. Now jobs will be lost as a result.

In some ways, I hope a lot of them. However, the damned landlords probably won't rent the spaces to anything worthwhile. Unsure if an empty storefront is better than a Tarbucks...

Be careful what you wish for. If SBUX goes away, NYC loses most of its public bathrooms.

I personally think Starbucks coffee is way over price and not worth the money. So, I could care or less if all starbucks store close.

At least three SBs have closed on UES, and two of the spaces were promptly rented to new tenants. Third (78th and Lexington) was in a building that is part of nearly an entire block that is coming down for redevelopment.

SB has been closing stores, and or reopening elsewhere for a few years now as leases come up for renewal.

Starbucks first "invaded" NYC nearly almost twenty years or so (give or take). As such many of those leases are (or were) coming up for renewal. Well NYC in particular Manhattan is much different today than it was twenty years ago. Retail rents have gone up and that goes for SB as well. They either must pay what LL want's or sling their hook and close.

If you've noticed SB's new stores on average aren't those huge lounges of past. But smaller spaces often with limited seating space.

SB has also stopped having two stores literally a block away from each other for most part as well. There once were two Starbucks at Astor Place (one across from K-mart, and the other on Third). When the latter was pushed out because that property was being redeveloped, SB didn't bother trying to open another.
