I've been living in Yonkers for 2 years and it finally makes sense to move into Manhattan due to my financial and working situation. In an effort to actually enjoy myself now, I've taken a strong interest in the UWS. I like the residential feel to the area, access to the park/west side highway/ etc etc.
2 things =)
For 2 months I'll be using my car, until I'm eligible for a car at my job to take me over the bridge to my job. I've had some co-workers who've had no problem parking on-street. I work overnights-so parking really shouldn't be a major issue I feel.
2nd, is a 2 bdrm for 2300 below 115th street realistic. Sorting through these c list ads can be a pain.
On that note, what are some better routes than c list?
Parking IS going to be a major issue, because there's alternate side of the street parking, including on weekends....
And that ad for a 2 bedroom apartment for $2300 sounds either like a fantasy or a deathtrap.
ok, well I mean the rate can go up. This is a low estimate. anything up to 3000$ will hit the sweet spot. In terms of parking, i'd be on the street from 8am-11pm.
Alternate side of the street parking is going to affect you mightily...it depends on the neighborhood, but parking is prohibited either from 8AM to 11AM or 11AM to 2 PM, etc. Again, it all depends on the neighborhood. Times vary.
Again, $3000 for two bedrooms is either a steal or a deathtrap....

I talk to a lot of people who pay 1400ish a month in shares and thats in midtown manhattan. I always thought the price was higher around there. I may be mistaken, things change so much year to year. I'm not looking for an awesome place with a view of the park, just a place to make dinner and rest my head.
I've seen 2brs in Yorkville for under $3,000. I didn't believe it at first, but it was legit. Small space though for a 2br, probably only 700-800sq ft, small kitchens (not enough room for a kitchen table), and no dining room to speak of. Nothing weird about these apartments/buildings either. They were on nice blocks, had good views, and weren't high up on the 5th/6th floor.

also thanks for the reply, and yes, that parking could totally screw me. I may have to wait a month or sublet around here until I can get car service.
Yea parking here in the city is alil crazy...But if you live here and work here then you wouldn't need a car at all really...If you are willing to pay a one month broker fee I know someone here in the city that could help you find a great 2 bedroom for below 3000 a month...I used him and I have a "real" 2 bedroom on the upper westside(80's) for 2700 a month...I luv this place and area been here for 2 yrs now.
Well, I'm not sure how south you want to go, but you can find a nice 1 bdrm for about $3200 near the park. As for parking you can't park from 8-930am Tues & Friday on the north side and Mon & Thurs on the south side. On the avenues, you have 1 hr meter parking, which probably wouldn't work for you.
Good luck!
