Hey, any inputs on how is Staten Island doing as of right now? It's the only place I can afford in NYC. Is Rosebank a good place to live in? I have to get to Manhattan for work so abit closer to the bridge is ideal.. Looking forward to hearing from you guys and girls!

600,000 is the loan I'm willing to borrow. 30% or 20% down payment

You can still buy houses in Queens or The Bronx with that budget. You should look into that depending on where your job is.

Rosebank is fine; a very nice area mostly solid middle class. It also offers good access to the ferry via bus, SIRT (train), driving, and or to the SIE since it's right by the SIE/VNB.

Once largely Italian, the area is slowly changing with lots of tear downs recently with those GD town houses shoved onto lots that once had small single family homes.

Along Bay Street in particular there has been much activity lately as developers have swooped in, bought old homes for tear downs....

Still all and all have to say Rosebank is still a nice family centered area of SI. Couple of nice parks, a ball field, and other things for the kids, etc...

Between $600k to nearly $800k is about the range many homes seem to be asking for North, East and parts of South Shore these days. Sweet spot seems to be in the $700k range.

Where in Manhattan will you be working? Perhaps you'd be better off in parts of Queens. There are places that are at or below your budget which are not loud for NYC standards

Why are you steering the OP to Queens? If they want to on Staten Island, to the them.
