I'm getting a job in East New York and I'd like to move closer to the job. Ideally it would be a place that's less expensive, but safe. I figure I could save money since it will be further from the city. What neighborhoods would be good to research?
Pretty much any neighborhood along the Queens border. Woodhaven, Ozone Park, and the Lindenwood section of Howard Beach. However, even in these areas you'll want to stay away from the ENY border, as they generally get better the further you are away from it. Lindenwood IMO is the nicest of the 3 areas I mentioned.
Do Not look into Brownsville. That area is even worse then ENY.
My max is 1,800 a month, but I'd prefer to pay less. For me and my wife. Train access isn't too important since I'll plan to drive to work.
If thats the case then I recommend Lindenwood or the southern portions of Ozone Park, south of Liberty Avenue. You'll have easy access to the Belt Parkway as well and Linden & Conduit Blvds.
