I will soon be working at Mid-town Manhatten. Looking for autism preschools for my son. I am moving from a different state and have no clue where to start. My son is 4 yrs currently having ABA, Speech and OT. We have been sending to his current pre-school for a year now and I dont see any improvement. However, he is a quick learner and has learnt everything that we taught him at home. When he is learning things at home why is he not able to learn anything at school. My experience with current school is heart breaking as he already lost 1 yr precious time not gaining much and I completely blame the school for their poor program.
So, schools with good special education programs really matters and I want to send him to schools where he has maximum benefits. Can you please suggest some public/private/charter preschools with good autism programs in Manhatten, Westchester, Queens, Brooklyn, Bronx and long island. I am flexible to live in any of these areas and a good school with excellent autism program is top priority. Hope someone can help me finding a school for him.
Are you looking for public school with special education classes or special education school (known as District 75)? I heard that parents of children with ASD are very happy with NEST program, however I don't know about requirements and age restrictions.
Here is the link https://steinhardt.nyu.edu/asdnest/about/publicschools. If you call them, they will guide you. All the best and good luck. there are many New York support groups for parents of children with ASD and they might have more detailed information.
