Kid has an audition at Lincoln Center on a weekday morning right after rush hour. Coming from Hartford area. We were thinking to drive to the bronx and do a drop off of one parent and the kid at a northern terminus subway station. I have read that subway service is much worse than it was many years ago.

Any suggestions/advice as to the best way to do this? I know traffic will be horrendous no matter how we do it. I'm thinking that maybe if we were to leave Hartford at 6 AM, we would get to the northern terminus by 730 AM, and to Lincoln Center by 9 AM, but I don't know if I'm being realistic.

If this audition is really important why not just stay at a hotel or airbnb right near the Lincoln center. No stress/ no rush. Your kid can practice at night and then in the AM again.

Why not catch Metro North from one of the Connecticut Stations?

I agree, the train makes sense. So check out Metro North - maybe from Stamford?

Once you get to Grand Central, you can take the 7 train to the 1 train to Lincoln Center, or take an uber/cab etc.

If you taking mass transit and this is important I would pad yourself with an hour extra time. Worst case scenario you arrive early and you can grab a bite near by.
Rush hour often causes delays with the MTA. I give myself a full extra 30 mins and sometimes I barely make it on time to places.
