This you have to read to believe:

"A new City Council bill seeks to require landlords to provide tenants with physical keys to their apartments — as well as to exterior building entrances — that don’t rely on the use of technology. The measure also specifically defines a key as a “piece of shaped metal with incisions cut to fit the wards of a particular lock.â€

So OTOH NYC is supposed to be a "world class" city and on cusp of technology; but yet another thing that sends us back to the stone age.

Have to agree with Seventh Floor on this one. We have too many brownouts and blackouts for this type of technology.

Agreed. Metal locks and cylinders don't need power.

This is not surprising considering the Jewish presence in NYC.

Cannot recall last time we lost power in our area; but that's just me.

People mange with keyless entry systems for offices, apartments, hotel, and motel rooms nation and world over.

When technology works it works great but yeah - what happens when there is a power outage?

Hate to say it - but the long arm of government might have this one correct.
