In order to get a refund for a mattress I tried out I am supposed to donate it and get a donation receipt. What is the best way to do this? I just checked and the salvation army does not accept mattresses even in excellent condition.

An alternative is recylcing or disposal but I would prefer donating (both would require proof of recylcing or disposal

Try Habitat for humanity, goodwill, or a church that takes donations.

How gross. Why would anyone take a used mattress? I'd much rather sleep on the couch or on the floor!

I think I saw someone in the same situation who was allowed to donate to another person (didn't have to be a nonprofit) so she posted the info on a neighborhood yahoo group or FB group with all the info. Any details could be helpful, like pics, specs, original price, etc.

If it's an expensive name brand mattress, you might find someone who wants it that way.

Some homeless person will snatch it up for their outdoor living space! Honestly either find someone to give it to, or you will have to dispose of it (properly of course). Out can always have your old mattress taken when they deliver your new one.. Let them figure it out!
