There are 2,700 jobs on the chopping block at the MTA as the agency brings on about 120 outside consultants to help them consolidate.

"We need to find $1.6 billion between now and the end of 2023. Those are the numbers," McCord said. "We have to do it, and we have to find the best possible way of achieving that objective."

Just a reminder to everyone:
MTA has 4 times the maintenance workers per mile of track compared to other US systems.
MTA has 10 times the maintenance workers per mile of track compared to other first world developed countries.

The average productivity of a MTA worker is equivalent to those videos you see on youtube of Indian laborers using shovels to transport sand instead of excavators and trucks.

we can invade countries in a month but cannot build a passenger rail system.

For a country that built the transcontinental railroad, this is a disgrace.

For a country that built the transcontinental railroad, this is a disgrace.

"In 1865, after struggling with retaining workers due to the difficulty of the labor, Charles Crocker (who was in charge of construction for the Central Pacific) began hiring Chinese laborers. By that time, some 50,000 Chinese immigrants were living on the West Coast, many having arrived during the Gold Rush. This was controversial at the time, as the Chinese were considered an inferior race due to pervasive racism."

LOL

You find the USA some cheap labor and you got a deal

We also have a system that is ancient and held together with duct tape. There is a cost for deferred improvement, and this is it
