Eegit driver parks his BMW on a hydrant in Bronx. There was a fire at Holland avenue and 212 street so FDNY did what they are trained to do; busted car's windows and ran hose through from hydrant to fire.
Owner of now busted BMW 5 series (with New Hampshire plates) is crying about now FDNY wrecked his ride. He claims the "battery died" on key fob so he couldn't move the car. Never mind it was parked illegally on that hydrant for four (4) days before the fire.....
You people who park on hydrants think FDNY is playing? If you're blocking and stuff goes down this is exactly what they will do; bust up your ride to run hoses. Like driver above you will also get ticketed for blocking said hydrant which will among other things means insurance won't cover damages.
Someone watched Backdraft and has been dying to have an opportunity for life to emulate a movie. It is not the first time it has been done in real life, either.
His front window was fine, not counting the ticket under the windshield wiper citing him for parking at a hydrant and for a bogus “USPS” parking placard on his dashboard, police said.
Why did they not get a fine for using a fake USPS parking placard?

The ticket should run him a total of $180, according to city records, and that’s on top of the several hundreds it will cost to replace the glass.
Total BS! Only $180? Last time I legally parked next to a fire hydrant, I was ticket, towed and impounded in a matter of hours. I came down the next morning to find a different car parked exactly where mine was an was like WTH. I had to pay a cab to go to the impound lot, pay the hydrant ticket which they never told me I had, I couldn't prove I wasn't close to the hydrant since they moved the car, and pay the impound fee. It cost me almost $400 overnight.

He’d parked the BMW there for the past four days, he admitted, after the battery died on the car’s keyless remote.
So it took him 4 days to get a battery they sell in every corner store?
This man lucky! 4 days parking at a hydrant and using a fake USPS placard all he have to do is replace 2 windows and pay $180? Thats luck!
we know not to park in front of a hydrant, but breaking the cars windows and running the hose thru it most likley took more time to do than to run the hose over the car,

It’s not the time. It’s the angle they need. Look at the sharp turn that hose would have to withstand.

They cant run the hose over the car or under the car. Those hoses are made of a cloth like material and can easily kink cutting off water flow when they are being pressurized. The hose must be ran without unnecessary angles or turns that can cause kinks.
Going over or around the car would cause a kink at the connection point. The yellow hose was able to run a direct path without a kink but the other hose wasnt.
