Roosevelt Island confuses me on the groceries front. Regardless of grocery delivery I'd prefer to walk to a grocery store, especially for perishables. Also not sure if there's a neighborhood bar/pub? Still, I got a low log number, so if I get the email, I'll look into it
I don't remember if they have a boat launch or ferry access.
They have a ferry stop under the Queensborough Bridge on the east side of the island.

There's a decent-sized Foodtown right by the bridge to Queens.
As for bar/pub, they had an okay one next to the Duane Reade by the F train station that closed pre-pandemic, but it looks like a new one recently opened in its place. There's maybe 2-3 other decent sit-down restaurants along Main St.
Real estate hyperbole aside, I think that the island has always been something of an undiscovered gem, especially for families. Diverse neighborhood, decent public school, good public school, room for kids to play, subway stop for parents to get into the city for work, and a quiet place when they get back. Plus, of course, those great views facing Manhattan (if you can afford it!).
No, it is not cheap. But for what you get, a family could pay a whole lot more for a whole lot less in other parts of the city.

i saw one paltry foodtown, and that's it... so if you want whole foods, its gonna be a whole lug home... no trader joes on the island.

It's a 4 minute walk from the gondola base in Manhattan to a Whole Foods. I've done just that before. Also very close is a small Japanese grocery store by the name of Katagiri.
There's also a Costco a bit off the other side of the bridge to Queens. And the farmer's market on the island on Saturday that's pretty good.
It is pretty wild that there isn't pedestrian and bike access from the Queensboro Bridge though. It historically did have such--maybe it'll have it again.
