Good Morning-

Was just getting my younger kids into travelling/experiencing different cultures and different foods when COVID hit. We can't go anywhere - but we can still experience different cultures here in NYC. What we usually do is have them choose out a country on the globe, and then see if we can find a couple stores, restaurants, bakeries, shops, etc. related to that country. For example, we recently did:

Poland

Bakery (Old Poland Bakery - 926 Manhattan Avenue)

Restaurant (Krolewskie Jadlo - 694 Manhattan Avenue)

Grocery Store (Dollar Up 712 Manhattan Avenue) - Despite it's name, this store has a huge variety of polish products

Thailand

Restaurant - Khao Kang 76-20 Woodside Ave, Queens, NY 11373

Grocery - 3 Aunties Thai Market 64-04 39th Ave, Woodside, NY 11377

Supermarket - Dollar Up Fruit - 6127 Roosevelt Ave, Woodside, NY 11377

Can anyone recommend a set of 3-4 businesses particular to any country, preferably within walking distance?

Looking for places where we can get a good takeout meal, some nice desserts, and some snacks/spices/coffees etc from that country. Appreciate any help I can get! Of course everything is at hands reach with Google, but I figure the community here might be able to make better, more accurate recommendations, while also taking some of the legwork out of it.

Bless you. If more parents did what you do, the world would be a better place.

We plan to do the same when kids grow up a bit.
We wanted to do Greece this year, then France, Italy, Ireland, but with lock downs, that might be on pause.

Lucky for us, USA has no shortage of amazing places to go to.

All styles and regions of China are represented in Flushing, Queens. There are too many restaurants to mention and there are also many supermarkets and street markets.

Transportation easy: last stop on the No. 7 Flushing line. Also LIRR Port Washington Line, Flushing station.

I don't several places within a few blocks of each other, but I will make recommendations for at least one per culture of places that I love going to.

Ghanaian
-Papaye Diner, 2300 Grand Concourse, The Bronx, NY

Caribbean
-Triple D's, 711A Washington Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11238. This hole in the wall has simply delicious food. It's a block or two away from the Brooklyn Museum, too. https://www.yelp.com/biz/triple-ds-brooklyn

-Puerto Viejo, 564 Grand Avenue, Brooklyn, New York 11238. Not exactly a few blocks from Triple D's, but it's a quick ten minute walk all the same. Dominican fare and it is simply delicious. Before this place became "hip," it was a little, rundown and very humble place. They've spruced it up a bit since a fire some years ago, but the same great staff and wonderful food. https://www.yelp.com/biz/puerto-viejo-brooklyn

WHAT?!? Not Chinatown? That would seem obvious to me.

Very nice project, by the way.

Flushing is the go to for Chinese stuff these days (doesn't mean Chinatown doesn't have lots of great options, though)
