Only just aesthetic, character, rusticity, solidity.

To each it’s own though, I’ll take any well-maintained pre-war over any of these characterless, glass and concrete new buildings.

Pre war buildings need to go. Nothing appealing about them at all.
Many pre-war buildings of all sorts are built GD far better than the junk that's going up now.

Doesn't matter; house, condo, rental..... majority of things going up now are over priced garbage. People spending millions for shoddy non-union work with fittings straight from Home Depot.
