The Hollywood Movie studios exclusively maintain their presence in LA, with virtually no other presence elsewhere....including the major market of NYC. Since they require ALOT of space, at a relatively cheap price, for the large sets, LA made sense back then. However, NYC is now reclaiming its place in the sun as a mecca for everyone, including actors, artists, and hollywood types.

As Hunts Point is 90% industrial, with a completely underutilized waterfront with city views, I wonder if they movie studios would snap up space and create a new Hollywood Studios area that can draw upon the huge NYC market of actors, actresses, designers, and all the other people in the business. The lack of representation in NYC is obvious and glaring....so why don't they open up studios to tap into everything NYC?

Seems obvious to me as the choking traffic, outrageous crime, and poor quality of life overall is driving people out of California and back to places like NYC. The opportunity for Hollywood is HUGE. Thoughts?

HAHAHAHA...what are you serious?? You leave a place because of safety an you move to Hunts Point out of all places??

They wouldn't last a day in the point.

That area is so undesirable it's crazy. Half of the neighborhood is all industrial and the other half are tenement blocks that consist of the most crime anywhere in the Bronx.

i have never seen a place with so much warehouses as hunts point. i thought the area south of linden blvd in east ny was pretty bleak but hunts points has just blocks and blocks of warehouses man. no wonder why so many hookers used to be there.

Don't forget the big markets over there. Largest produce market in the world I believe.

Has anyone ever been in them? I want to go check it out (don't think I really can buy anything though as they seem to only sell in bulk and I don't have the space).

It would be a good spot as far as the huge space needed for a studio. But it is not that convenient to midtown, where I assume actors/ producers would live/ stay.

I think if they were to bring moviemaking back to the NY area, they would use the Meadowlands area.

Well Mario they are already shooting stuff in the Bronx anyway. Mostly crime shows and crime movies, lol. If you want gritty NYC, the Bronx still has it in heaps.

What Guy is proposing seems like a novel idea for the area. Do I think it will happen? No.

It's exactly because it is a large industrial area on the waterfront with an easy commute to NYC that makes it ideal for large movie sets. The meadowlands would be okay too..but the idea was to be within the city..and I don't see any better location. Hunts Point to me would make an ideal location!

Forget about the Bronx..its not about the Bronx..its about space that is within NYC, easily accessible, and can accomodate large studios to film movies, TV, specials, etc. Hunts Point has the space, cheap land, waterfront, and easy access to NYC....this seems like a no brainer to me...would bring HUGE revenue and attention to Hunts Point as well as the South Bronx in general....I think Bloomberg would do well to push this...and it would provide a large numbers of jobs to the locals.

I think I will send an email to Bloomie!

They filmed this movie in my neighborhood: Synecdoche, New York - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia . I'm waiting for it to come out.
