Department of Education employees, teachers, and education advocates are calling for an end to the city’s Gifted and Talented program in an open letter to the Department of Education arguing the program “cements segregation.”
Honestly, by now, it's a non-issue. What gifted and talented? Most kids haven't seen the inside of a classroom this year, and the ones that have, mostly clocked maybe 5 days a month in class. No one is quite sure if high schools will reopen in person 5 days a week next year... for that matter, who knows what will happen with elementary and middle school once more families want to send their kids in person. There's a lot of damage to undo.

Yeah. De Blasio is all for it but...! The teachers union are not on board.
De Blasio Vows NYC Schools Will Reopen In September At "Full Strength"
During an appearance on MSNBC, de Blasio declared, “We’re coming back in September full strength. I don’t have a doubt in my mind.”
The optimistic assessment is at odds with a recent statement from the head of the United Federation of Teachers union, Michael Mulgrew, who said last week that he would resist fully reopening schools until all teachers were vaccinated.

That's what Mulgrew said? I don't know what to make of it. As far as I know, all the teachers who wanted a vaccine got one. The rest don't want one, or aren't ready yet. So you'd think that would be that.
I really suspect it's not about that at all, or about safety, or about students and their families. It's just easier to keep most kids out of class so you don't have to deal with discipline issues and commutes. So there will be excuses to replace the excuses, and those excuses will have little baby excuses and it will never end.
Every teacher I know wants to go back. Just like the average NY'er, they're clearly voting in hard-core leftists who don't represent them. Their union votes destroyed NYC schools whether they want to accept the blame or not. Thank god my kids will never step foot in a UFT indoctrination camp ever again!!
When you ask a white scuz bag liberal or woke poc the following you'll never get an answer: If we are going to curb the % of white/asian kids in advance school programs due to diversity then why aren't we doing the same in professional sports where homies are the vast, vast majority of "students" in the NFL and NBA? "
There is no good answer for them, because the real answer is only the best of the best should play or study at the highest levels. And we all know deep down this is the truth.
Sports remains the last institution that woke liberal scuz has yet to figure out how to ruin!
