Video Doorbells (crime, how much, new house)

do you have a video doorbell in front of your door at your home? or nah? if so which one? what are the pros and cons?

I have NEST cameras connected to two loud sirens and motion sensors. The cameras were $500 for two but the service is only $100 per year. App works like a charm . I can see the live feed from anywhere in the world. Add a sign on your door for extra verification.

Well worth the money.

Many people seem to have them. Then I see them post about package thieves in the area with the video on different neighborhood groups. These people are never caught. So I am not sure how much good it really does.

That being said, most people I know have Nest and like it.

I have one and I never use it. If I’m not expecting visitors then I’m simply not opening the door or welcoming anyone. I’m too old skool for that kind of thing.

I haven't had a doorbell period for about 10 years. The one on my new house doesn't work either and I have no plans on fixing it.

The Ring Video DoorBell is an awesome invention.
It comes with a built in wifi Video camera, microphone ,speaker,buzzer and acknowledgement light .

All you need is internet service in your home or a wifi hotspot.


All it requires is swapping out your existing door bell.

No door Bell ? no worries.

You can mount battery operated versions or order a wired plug.

If you want to wire it up....
Drill a hole mount your ring system. Connect 2 bell wires and run it to a bell trans former.
Run the other side of the Bell transformer to a circuit breaker or an outlet.

There are easy videos to follow....

Download the Ring app to your smart phone and Bingo all done..............
Every time someone rings the bell your phone notifies you with audio and visuals.
If it's some miscreant to can tell him he's got 10 seconds to get off the property before
you sic the dogs on him. Don't get much better than that.
