Metro areas with the largest population size lead the U.S. in the number of neighborhoods with indications of gentrification during the period. New York, Los Angeles and Chicago are first, second and fifth respectively. In fact, half of the top ten gentrifying cities have populations over five million, the smallest being Indianapolis with two million residents.

Back in the day parts of Harlem and alot of lower east side were just like the south bronx burnt and abandoned then building tenants got together to but buildings to form co ops. THEY DID A REAL GOOD JOB that's that's when the real estate companies saw potential in the area and they started buy up some the burnt-out buildings some gentrification was needed back then!

That's old data, with DeBlasio many gentrification areas have slowed or and with covid it may have stalled.
