I just have to laugh at the fatalistic title of this post and basically every post that is dead certain that no matter what NYC does to try to better itself it will be impossible. A new mayor won't do it, new police trainings won't do it, new funding for mental illness won't do it, bonds for babies for education won't do it, roadwork won't do it. Nothing will ever get better until we get back to allowing cops to randomly stop black folks on the streets and arrest and/or beat or kill them and until we rid the entire city of any social safety net ever because god forbid you fall on hard times, is what it always boils down to.

Just work hard, pull your bootstraps up, never rely on anyone for anything, overcome any educational failures or family hardships and don't be black or brown and the magical fairytale that never existed will come back.

I would be a little surprised if you were born in America.

no, this should not be happening. I guess getting arrested has had zero effect on him what so ever at all.

maybe throw them in jail, and lose the key.

Bail reform. Lots of repeat offenders and very, very often, because of lack of supervision, failure to appear.

Black people always criticize Giuliani for stop and frisk. But he had another major achievement that is unrecognized - crushing the Italian mafia.

The mafia was extremely powerful in the 1970s and 1980s. For Giuliani, as an Italian American they viewed him as some kind of traitor when he was a prosecutor in the 1980s then by the time he became mayor he still had several outstanding bounties on his head.

I am old enough to remember when crossing Canal Street from Chinatown to Little Italy was an invitation for a beating by bat wielding thugs and men in shiny suits flicking knives. The mafia hated Chinese people and saw the encroachment of their territory as a threat. Italian building owners were intimidated and pressured not to sell.

After Giuliani put the top bosses away that is when you saw the rapid advance of Chinese people into former Little Italy. The Italians are now there only in name.

It is funny that is overlooked. Good points.

I thought Bloomberg did a great job. Shame what is going on in NYC now. Guess we are headed back to the 90's type of crime in a lot of cities.

Just like what happened in CA in the early 90s, eventually they had to up the punishment and sent many criminals to jail for simply committing the 3rd strike. People will push politicians to do so here.

The religious church of woke believes that you must destroy everything to build Utopia

They're actually pretty ecstatic that nobody is getting prosecuted

These are red flags.
Most people who post on NYC C-D can't vote for mayor because they don't live here. The ones that do live here, they're too poor to move so they come on here and complain because they cant afford therapy. And blame it on they can't leave because they have to take care of grandma.

Not all of us are blessed enough to live in a taxpayer subsidized project in the ghetto.

Should I be more blessed to live where you're at? Which is where, by the way? Let me guess, won't disclose the neighborhood. Keep your empty words for empty people.
