I love that the NYT will make a point of an obit about a "mere" bellhop. A great NYC immigration story.
Jimmy Elidrissi, Waldorf Bellhop for Five Decades, Dies at 74
Jimmy Elidrissi was 19 when he left his native Morocco for the United States, alone and barely able to speak English but full of ambition. He knew that as an immigrant he could never grow up to become president, but he found a job in New York where, he said, he got to meet nine of them. https://vacationinja.com/jimmy-elidr...es-dies-at-74/

Well done Cida.
What a great story.
This is what the America I grew up in was made of.
Hard working folks with no quit instead of free loaders
occupying our streets today...................

Lol. That’s exactly what your dad used to say to you fifty or so years ago.

Thanks, but I think that's a silly comparison. Fifty or more years ago, it was far easier to simply walk in and get a job. A hundred years ago, immigrants would arrive with almost no money, but knew they could get work. There was less pressure about background checks, about experience, about paperwork. It's silly to imagine that most immigrants today are freeloaders.
