FYI

September. It's going to be interesting.

The city is sticking to its decision to fully reopen schools in the fall, but it will continue to rely on remote learning as a backup plan as the delta variant continues to spread.

“We remain committed to in person learning, but we’ve learned a lot over the past year about our ability as a system to pivot to remote if necessary. And so we have that as an option for potential closures, potential classroom closures,” Schools Chancellor Meisha Porter said in an interview with Mornings On 1.

The city insists there will be no remote option, but that it will use remote learning in emergency situations, such as a class needing to be quarantined.

Porter appeared alongside Health Commissioner Dave Chokshi, who reiterated the importance of vaccination.

The pair pushed the city’s Vax to School initiative, calling for eligible students to get vaccinated.

About 60% of faculty members are vaccinated, according to Porter, a number she expects to grow.

With weeks to go before school starts and little information, some parents feel 'deja vu'

https://www.ny1.com/nyc/all-boroughs...sts_po-organic

There’s a little more than a month until the first day of what Mayor Bill de Blasio has promised will be a more normal school year. But with many questions unanswered, some parents say they feel right back where they were a year ago. Some parents say the education department hasn't provided enough information, just five weeks before school begins.

They want to know about quarantine protocols, social distancing and more. Others are hoping the city will add a remote option, which the mayor has said will not be offered...

It's going to be offered because this time it's the kids who are in danger with this new variant. The adults will be mostly vaccinated and not at risk for hospitalization in NY, unless it mutates again quickly after spreading amongst the teens.
