Yesterday, The NY Times real estate section featured a story about a guy who rented a studio apt at "the Dime" in Williamsburg, BK. The glaring part of the story, at least for me is, the studio is only 400 sqft and cost ~$3,200 per month.

Would you pay $3,200 to live here: https://3dapartment.com/embed/4055
It reminds me of a nice hotel room. Great for a few days, but certainly not a place where I would want to call home for an extended period of time.

The building has a lot of amenities, but even with the great amenities, the rent is too high for such a small space.

What am I missing? Why would anyone pay $3,200 per month for such a tiny space? Williamsburg is not that great.

The NYT RE section is bought and paid for by the city's RE industry. It's advertising.

Agreed, but it's such a waste of an advert, because if anything, the size of the studio and rent is a major turn off for most.

400 sq feet for a studio isn't small. You can live very nicely in that amount of space.

I grew up with my family of four (and sometimes five if relatives were visiting) in a 950 sq ft co-op. At the time, I didn't know we were deprived and poor.

People have so much "stuff" these days, they need large apartments and houses to store everything. I'm amazed at the number of self-storage companies and locations people use to store their excess "stuff".

Oh I know. Like how much stuff and space do you Really need? Plus we live in one of the best cities, go out and enjoy it.

I lived in mostly studio's my adult life. Ranging from 250 sq ft to 550 sq feet. I lived in all just fine and never felt cramped.

It's a small studio, but not it's micro if you can easily get both a sofa and a bed in the living space and have a table. I tend to need about another 50 sq. ft. min. to make things work for me, but this is def. workable for a lot of singles. Of course rent is ridiculous but this is nothing out of the ordinary here.
