Something needs to be done that's for sure regarding to MTA funding. They also have to find a way to make subways safer. It's a shame what's been happening.

Lieber has said the MTA should be funded like an essential service rather than be so reliant on fare hikes and service cuts, but he’s left it up to state lawmakers and the governor to come up with a plan.

Pearlstein said the state should invest in more service now to make the transit system as good as possible rather than to wait until the federal pandemic relief runs out in three years.

If you want riders to come back, keep service at good levels and boot the homeless out when they aren't using the system for what it's meant to be used for. No more sleeping in cars, no more camping on platforms, no more harassing and threatening paying customers. If you can't act right you get booted, whether you're homeless or a damn millionaire.

That would work, but I would bet those simple solutions are not on the table. That would require work and strong political leadership. Not happening.

I just received a detailed survey from the MTA. One question was when I do I expect to ride the subway again. Answer: NEVER!

Why not? The MTA boots out all passengers on the SI Ferry at the end of every ride. They can do the same for the subways. All it takes is the political will to do so. They can start by equipping officers with cattle prods and stun batons to move bums along.

First, NYC DOT runs SI Ferry, not MTA, so that's sorted for you.

Two, ferry crew at end of each run are responsible for ensuring all passengers leave the boat upon docking, this is among their other duties. By the way that bit is relatively new time wise; late as 1980's into 1990's you could ride the GD ferry back and forth all you wanted and no one said *boo*.

Since SIF has been free for decades (thank you Rudy G.), really don't see point, especially on SI side which was free anyway.
