Long story short - he plans on working around the ruling - even though he carries concealed himself:
Adams insisted that despite the ruling, 'nothing changes today' and that the city would be reviewing its procedures to ensure that only those who are 'fully qualified' can obtain a concealed carry permit.
'We cannot allow New York to become the wild, wild West. That is unacceptable,' said Adams.
Here is my view: why do these politicians think that people in NYC who were granted pistol permits are the ones who will cause the extreme gun violence when NYC permit holders are the ones with the excessive background checks, three year renewal checks and fees? SCOTUS’ ruling only apply to those people who have gun permits so by NYC’s standards, it should still be ok.
I'm not surprised . A monopolist, never willingly relinquishes their monopolistic position. Adams made his entire career on NYCs strict gun laws. He has to be aware of this even on a subconscious level.
Without these strict gun laws we wouldn't need 35,000 cops.
I'm not anti-cop at all (I'm in favor of virtually giving them carte-blanche when dealing with criminals) but I also realize that we have an absurd amount of cops which necessitates a large police budget.
More guns in people's hands mean less crime and the need for such a large police force will be questioned.
Furthermore, carrying a gun in NYC is a major perk of being a cop. If the average NYCer could carry, that perk isn't really a perk anymore.
Gonna be very weird if Supreme Court ends a constitutional right to obtain an abortion next week, saying it should be left to the States to decide, right after it just imposed a constitutional right to concealed carry of firearms, saying it cannot be left to the States to decide - Neal Kaytal, Twitter, 06/23/2022 (SCOTUS lawyer & law professor)

Point to the place in the Constitution where abortion is mentioned?
