ok. My husband and I are starting a family in NYC (really manhattan and brooklyn). We have a budget of $2,000 a month for a 1 bedroom with a den or a 2 bedroom. We wanted to know, where is the safest area to live in? Thank you!!

There is a variety of different areas that you can live in that would be considered relatively safe but being that this is an urban area, no one area has a lock on safety. Brooklyn is fairly large with a variety of areas in it that you can reside in with your family. For the 2000 per month, the only area in Manhattan that might be considered safe for the size apartment you are looking for is Inwood, parts of Washington Heights and maybe Morningside Heights. In Brooklyn, you can try Prospect Heights, Park Slope, parts of Fort Greene, Carroll Gardens, Boerum Hill, Cobble Hill (possibly out of the price range), Bay Ridge, Mill Basin, Windsor Terrace, Kensington etc. You can search Craigs List or other apartment services over the net, and look at apartments that are in your price range and let people know the area and you will get a more concise answer to your question.

I honestly don't think anyone is going to find a junior 4 (which is actually what's being looked for) in Manhattan for that price. I'd recommend looking in Queens (Jackson Heights) and Brooklyn for starters. Given that safety is your highest priority, Mahattan will be a non-starter with that budget.
