On the corner of Madison and Catherine on the Lower East Side. This tragedy was entirely preventable. Government notices have repeatedly gone out about the dangers of cheap , Chinese made ebike batteries which are both explosive and fire prone. Even though I am Chinese I will not hesitate to call out my own people for doing dumb ****.

The need for greed ( charging dozens if not scores of ebike batteries in a tiny room ) led to a build up of capacitors in the batteries. Chinatown is full of ebike repair stores as is many non- Asian lower income neighborhoods. But the Chinese predominate since they can read, write, and speak with the ebike manufacturers which are 99% based in China.

Additionally, this industry subsidizes the illegals ( of all races , including Chinese but mostly Latino now) who are delivery drivers for apps like Uber eats, seamless, grub hub, etc. Removing illegals' flow of money is the first step in reducing their migration.

I have complained to FDNY & DOB numerous times about this location.. My last complaint was in April. I warned them about the fire hazards as they had extension cords all over the sidewalks. The sidewalk and street were filled with ebikes, making it hard for buses & cars to drive down Madison St. Now look.... It was totally preventable and nothing was ever done from the reports I submitted.

First they wanted to ban cars because they pollute.
Now they will want to ban e bikes because they explode.

Id like to say the perps paid with their lives but other innocents died or had their businesses ruined like the bodega owner interviewed. Hopefully they have insurance.

There's a severe lacking of ebike safety rules and code. Nothing will be done until enough people die, injured, or bigger problems like accidents and bigger fires.

According to the the Daily News: "The marshals entered the repair shop on Madison St. near Catherine St. in Manhattan on Aug. 30 after getting a 311 tip about charging e-bikes plugged into extension cords, which is a violation of the fire code."

Yeah, probably one of my reports...

What's worse are there are unknown numbers of ebike and scooter owners charging their vehicles inside their apts. These are all fire risks. Most coop and condo boards should have banned them by now but enforcement is easier said than done.
I don't care if irresponsible owners want to win Darwin awards. But I do care if their actions endanger neighbors .

If I would've had the unfortunate experience of living in one of the apartments above, I would've been a major Karen to the core! I don't know how tenants could've been so dismissive!

All battery powered electric vehicles need to be banned. They're a menace to society.
