I think its great for NYC. If it wasn't for these architects we would still have the same bland skyscrapers of the past. We have to maintain our status as a skyscraper city and one with an innovative skyline. If not, in the future, places like Dubai will take the lead. I support grand projects, but not if eminent domain is used to displace people.

Well, I'll grant you that innovation isn't a bad thing. But Dubai isn't a good example when making a case; it's largely overkill there. They don't need most of what they're building--the reigning monarch is showing off to the world. New York City doesn't have to show off to the world. You can build things that are larger and newer, but you're going to have a hard time improving on, say, the Brooklyn Bridge or the Empire State Building. And it's going to be a long time before someone comes up with parks that are superior to Frederick Law Olmsted's handiwork (Central & Prospect).
