I didn't say its the fault of Caribbeans. Its whites who lump all people of color into one category while of course whites are "Italian" or "Irish" or "German". Whites often only see black people as "black" and they dont care about their origin. Black is black to them. Not true in most communities of color however. And nothing wrong with defining oneself by one's nationality. African-Americans who have lived here for several generations have their own sort of "nationality" in terms of a sub-culture which is in many ways different than the white American culture or the various latino cultures.
ITA Whites do tend to lump all blacks together..same with Latinos..thinking they are all Mexican or all Puerto Rican. That is a pet peeve of mine.
Lets be serious here....we lump white people all together also..who has the time/interest to seperate the Romanians from the Albanians from the Bulgarians from the Estonians from the Swedes....they are just "european" or "white". We all do it...and black is everyone who is black...
