Electric bill question for rented nyc apartments (how much, home)

I am moving to NYC this year and trying to determine AVERAGE, ballpark figure for electric bills in a rented 1 bedroom (around 800 square feet).
I was told that for most doorman luxury buildings, electric and heat ARE included...but not air conditioning. I am wondering if someone could verify this and also give me some sort of approximate bill for summer months when we need air conditioning. I know there is a range, but let's say someone who works from home and is often in the apartment.

No, whoever told you that electricity was included in most luxury buildings is incorrect. Nor is A/C, if you have a fan that circulates the cool air.

For a one bedroom, depending on how much you're home, how many things you like on at a time, and how much natural light you get, I'd say about $60/month and more in the summer.

It's hard to give a ballpark figure as the price of energy has been all over the place.

I live in a 400 sq ft studio. During the winter I pay $60-$70/month. During the summer, $90-$125/month. This last summer however, it was between $100-$180/month.

I don't know of any apartment buildings where the building pays the tenant's utilities other than heat and hot water. I've seen this occasionally in certain situations, but not in your typical NY apartment building.

My roughly 600SF apartment ran me around $50/month for gas & electricity, except when I ran the A/C in the summer, when the bill was closer to $75.

I'd have to say I find that figure to be low for the typical market rate summer bill. Perhaps, you live in a rent controlled apartment where utilities are either included in the rent or subsidized and thus you pay a lower than normal bill.

I believe I said it'd be MORE in the summer. And, no, I don't live somewhere where the utilities are included in rent (and I don't rent)...

$150-200 a month in the summer when I was running the window A/C unit... it's a hot apartment-- top floor of a walkup, south facing room, big windows, black roof... worst case scenario as far as heat, so high cooling cost.

But in the winter it's only like $20-30. The computers and fridge are pretty much the only things using electricity now...

I live in a 1 bedroom (aprox 750 sq ft) luxury apt with south/west wrap-around windows on a high floor, so lots of sun. I turn on the heat maybe a handful of times in the winter & my bills usually run about $60-80 from Oct-Apr. In the summer it gets HOT, so my bills are more like $150-175 May-Sept.

This is a couple of years after the last post, and after a 14% rate increase for ConEd (really - 14%). Monthly electric bill averages $130 without A/C, goes up to $250/mo with A/C. In a 1BR apt with only 4 circuits and 1 of those has no load at all. Can't understand it.
