Hi everyone,

I would be coming from Chicago and wondering what is a good place to live in Manhattan that I could get with decent rent prices. I don't see the lower parts being possible, but what about near Columbia (a potential place that I would work)? I also have a car so I'm concerned with that too. Are there relatively cheap places to store your car and be able to access it by subway?

First I would ask why you want to keep a car in the city - it's a huge expense if you put it in a garage and a huge pain in the neck if you don't. It's not necessary, either.

Columbia - around 110th Street? Or up at the medical school (168th Street)? If you're working at the university they'll likely have some leads on housing on bulletin boards on campus. What are you looking for? You MIGHT find a small studio for what you're willing to spend.

are prices that cheap in Chicago?

your not gonna be able to get a studio for that price unless you look in the outer boroughs which you still probably wont find a place. I suggest getting alot of roomates.

It might take some work and compromise, but you CAN find a studio for the price you've got in mind. And lose the idea of keeping a car in the city. If you need one you can rent one.
