More is always better, but $10K should be ample.

Additional question - is it enough for what?

Using an example, if you find a place for $1,000 (or whatever the rent will be), you will need first months rent and a security deposit, so there goes $2,000 off the back. Do you need to furnish the place? If this is your first time living alone, chances are you will have little to no furniture. So if you plan on furnishing the place, even on the cheap, you might be looking at another $2K (to be conservative). So that would leave you with only $6,000 left.

If you plan on moving out without a job first, then you will need to live off that $6,000 until you find a job, which with your rent and utilities and food, you probably have about 4 months on it before your broke - and in this market, it might take a while to find a job.

Of course, these are all based on assumptions of how much your budgeting for rent, but personally, I think it's do-able, but might be tight for you, especially if you don't land a good paying job right away.
