On the UWS, most luxury buildings, especially Central Park West, have a name. On the UES, most buildings on Park and 5th Ave go by their address, rarely get a name to call.
The UES is well known as the most bland, generic, boxes in the sky people-move-there-to-die neigborhood in Manhattan. Move there if you've got money but you've given up.
Born on the UES. Consider it staid, with a weird mix of buildings. I grew tired of fighting with old ladies for cabs and shopping at Gristedes. However, it is probably where I'll raise my family when I get older.
Compared to the UES, the UWS' architecture makes me saw "wow" more often. The buildings are gorgeous. Not to mention, the UWS is accessible by 5 trains and they aren't tearing up an Avenue to pop another one in.
