I'm 18 years old and going to NYC for school. Where would be the most reasonable areas to live (and if you can be more specific in any way) but also I can probably spend up to $1400 (including heat, electricity, water, etc) so keep that in mind. I don't mind that much about the area whether or not a lot of younger people live in a certain area as long as it's safe!, I'll be inside hanging out or whatever or I'll be at my classes.
Well, what school are you going to? It'll probably be nice for us to suggest a safe neighborhood in your price range that's a reasonable commute to your school
For 1400 you could easily find a place in those areas with a roommate, without one no way. I would look for a cheaper room though. You can find rooms for rent in nice areas of Manhattan for 700-900 which is good.
I think a place in the East Village might be possible for that amount, especially since rents appear to be somewhat softer now than in the recent past. Probably not in the other Manhattan areas you mentioned, though.

They're softer, but I still don't think they're that soft.. if people found out they could be living in East Village for the same amount as a lot of other neighborhoods, I'm sure they'd be flocking there in an instant.

Just got accepted to the School of Visual Arts but I plan on transferring my sophomore year to NYU.
Also is it possible to find a place in either like East Village, Greenwich, Gramercy, or Murray Hill for my price range?
I don;t know about visual arts, but NYU has it own dorms...so you wouldn't really need an off campus apartment.
