Hello, I've just joined 2 credit unions.

One is MCU(New York Municipal Credit Union) and Xcel credit union. Does anyone have any feedback or info on these credit unions? Xcel seemed very nice but MCU seemed very busy and unorganized.

Thanks

I've belonged to Xcel since before it was Xcel. Have never had any problems getting loans, etc. I've also gotten good customer service when I've had to call with questions. It's easy to get a live person. The drawback is that they have few branches, but I do everything on line anyway. And there's no fee at most ATM machines located in 7-11.

Don't know anything about MCU.

I belonged to MCU and didn't like it. The lines at their locations can be very long and your impression of them being unorganized is right on.

I had a small automatic deduction from my paycheck. I didn't pay much attention to the account, and after about 2 months there was only 1 of my deposits in my account when there should have been 5. Customer service over the phone wasn't helpful, and a trip to the Queens Center Mall branch was useless because I went on a Saturday and "that department wasn't working". I ended up calling the rep who came to my job to enroll people and he cleared it up very quickly (after a few weeks attempting with cust serv).

I recall others at my job not happy but can't remember specifically why. I only joined because I thought a credit union would give me better rates, but that wasn't the case. Especially now that online savings accounts tend to pay the best rates. I didn't find their mortgage rates very competitive when I purchased my house either

I am getting a mortgage from MCU right now. The service is unbelievably poor. Noone responds to any e-mails or calls. Simplest things take months to accomplish. Stay away if you have a choice.
