We are vacationing into NYC around that time. We will have a car as well. How crazy will it be the day after Christmas getting around in Brooklyn? We "may" venture over to Manhattan, but we're not sure. Will it be very crowded in terms of traffic? Or pretty mellow since it's the weekend after Christmas?
Dec 26th is not a good day to be driving anywhere in NYC. It is a high "gridlock alert day" and there could be jam up almost anywhere and there definitely will be in Manhattan.
Take the subway and enjoy yourself.A car will ruin your vacation.
Driving in NYC is a test to ones patience any time of year, the holidays are no exception. Pray it won't be snowing that day or you'll really be hating life driving in NY and looking for parking. You'd be better off with the train.
I am usually out of the city for Christmas, so I can't say specifically, but today being the day after Thanksgiving, everything was so nice and quiet in Brooklyn. Parking on the street was a free for all. Meaning, I found a spot two blocks away, walked home, saw a spot in front of my building, and I had more than enough time to go back to the car and get the new spot, which is unusual. Buses were running on time, people weren't crowding the street... might be different on the 26th, but I sure was surprised with how empty things were, even yesterday at Grand Central.
Um, I wouldn't assume it'd be too bad. Christmas being on a Friday this year, I'd assume Saturday wouldn't be a big travel day. If people are traveling for the holidays, I'd assume they'd be staying the weekend.
December 27th would be the bad travel day this year, I'd assume.
