Hey guys,

So I recently moved to Bay Ridge area and found out that Cablevision and Verizon don't support high speed internet in my area. Am I stuck with Time Warner for internet or are there any other options? I have no experience with Time Warner but they do charge a lot

Just thought I'd ask.

Thanks.

I see a lot of DirectTV dishes on rooftops and balconies in Bay Ridge. Maybe call them? You may want to make sure the landlord (if you live in an apartment building) will allow them to put the dish on the roof or attach it to the outside of a southern facing window in your apartment.

Not sure how much cheaper they are than Time Warner but it may be worth a shot.

Oh man..... I had Time Warner internet ONCE for a short time. did a triple package they offered. HORRIBLE. I would say that it was "up" maybe 50% of the time. total nightmare.... got rid of it QUICKLY. Good luck! Sorry to hear no Verizon service. Never had any issues with them. (Wish I could help but I have no idea on that area).

Thanks guys,

Nope RCN doesn't work at my address. I looked at DirecTV website and they charge even higher for slower service than Road Runner. Wow. It's one thing after another for me...Well maybe I can catch someone's unsecured wireless connection

That is pretty low stealing somebody else's wireless connection, good luck with that anyway. You must be in bad shape if you can't afford your own cable or dsl internet service($29.00-$38.95 a month)

I was just joking about that. Like I said I tried to contact Cablevsion/Optimum as well as Verizon and both told me that they can't let me use their services because they don't cover my area.

I'm in Bay Ridge as well. We're pretty much stuck with Time Warner or Verizon DSL until Verizon FiOS becomes available which at this point seems like never.

I have Time Warner and while I agree its not as good as Cablevision, it's still pretty decent service.

FYI a lot of people are OUT OF WORK and $30 bucks a month is their food money...........maybe you can be a lil more sympathetic to all the people who have been laid off or lost their job........it could happen to you...fyi this recession has turned into a depression and people ARE DESPERATE!

Some of the cell phone carriers have internet options and their is a company called clearwire not sure if it is avail in your neck of the woods or something simular... here is their link Clearwire Corp - Home
