For the last couple of years, NY State has banned the sale of unpasteurized apple cider anywhere, even directly from farms. I don't know the law in New Jersey, Connecticut, or Pennsylvania, but are there any places within a few hours of NYC where one could buy unpasteurized cider? The UV treated stuff doesn't taste the same.

We used to go to Ochs Cider Mill in Livingston, NJ. But I understand they're closed now.
Goggle "cider mills in NJ", or whatever state and you'll get a list with phone #s.
Other than that idea, sorry I can't help. Maybe others will imput. Good luck.

I fully agree with you, after they pasturize the cider it is nothing but apple juice...

Well New York Apples are some of the very best anywhere. You can buy a cheap cider press and buy apples and in a very short time you will have apple juice. There are lots of ways to do it, many times yard sales will have an old one.

Even I suppose a juicer machine would do the trick. But now is the time for apples and they stay for quite a while so you can make all the unpasteurized apple juice you need.

I actually wouldn't mind building a press, though I admit it would be a bit difficult to do in a Queens apartment.

I bought 2 gallons of cider at a roadside stand (really just a guy with a giant cooler and a tailgate tent) off I-81 in Tully, NY about ten years ago. I put it in my trunk and at the end of the day when I got home, the plastic cartons had ballooned. Unpasteurized. It inspired me to try homebrewing.
