Piedmont for about 7 years, first in a city of about 17,000 then a smaller town of about 3,500. N.C. was warmer and sunnier needless to say. The area of N.C. where we lived was much more densely populated than the area of western N.Y. where we lived. Rochester and Elmira were as far away from us as Winston-Salem and Greensboro. Another big difference is handguns and concealed carry. NY is much more restrictive in this realm than NC but if you are not a firearms owner, this will not affect you.
The weather is one of the best things about Upstate SC. Winter goes by so fast (although I like a little snow after the new year) and the days get warmer here so quickly that you get signs of spring by mid February.

The problem is the summer heat. I'll take a foot of snow and 20s to 90s anytime.

Its not so bad normally in the Upstate near the mountains. This summer was sort of cool for us since we had so much rain. Now from Columbia on down to the coast is a different ball game. One time I was going to Charleston and at 5 pm in Columbia it was 106 degrees. But in the summer you get hot weather up and down the east coast.

We may get in the 90's a handful of times, usually highs are in the 80's during the summer.

With the snow, most areas up here are prepared for it and life goes on as usual.
