My husband is originally from Long Island and we are looking to move with our 2 young kids somewhere around May 2015. We know that trying to find a house on Long Island that is affordable for a family of four with only 1 income until we are settled, is probably not going to happen.

Does anyone have any input on a nice town nearby (no more than 45 minues from LI), with a good school district, affordable housing, lower taxes? We would still like to be fairly close to LI to see hubby's family.

Any Input Would Be Greatly Appreciated.

Where on Long Island, because if his family is in Suffolk County, you're talking about just Long Island or NYC?

Price range? Long Island is expensive, taxes are high and you don't get much for your money. I wouldn't recommend coming here. Living here on one income will bankrupt you in no time. I'm leaving myself this summer.

Thanks for the input. Now that I've actually pulled up a map and saw the different areas and mapped out directions, I can see all of the different towns and how far from LI they are so I can start doing research that way.

Do you have to be within 45 minutes of his family or is that a target timed distance?

No, now that I spoke it over with him, we can be up to an hour and a half or so

You may want to look in NJ or maybe Rockland County.
