Hello. I am thinking of moving to New Jersey/New York and I have a 5th grader who is both gifted (140 IQ) and very ADHD, or what is known as twice-exceptional. I am looking for a school district in New Jersey/New York that caters to both the strengths and the weaknesses of children like my son. Does anyone have any suggestions? The only school I know of is the Lang School in Manhattan, but the cost of that school is too high.
Thank you.
Yes annerk I am pretty sure you are right. It does not seen right that this population of children need to have rich parents to get the education then need.
Any public school will need to follow the IEP in the least restrictive environment which could very well be the local public school with an aide and some pull out for advanced classes in certain subjects.
By the time you are reading this, I will likely have my master's in speech language pathology. Our son is also twice exceptional. Given the cost of schools are $30,000, but a public school is unlikely to meet the needs of twice exceptional students, for our son and my occupation, we plan to open our own center. Likely in upstate New York. Please contact me if interested!
Hello,

Many thanks,
Gina
