Rochester and the Capital Region did pretty well, with 20 of the 30. The others were a little disappointing.
Of the other 10, 4 are in the Syracuse area(all in its Eastern suburbs), 2 in the immediate Poughkeepsie area, 2 in the Buffalo area, 1 in the Utica area(New Hartford HS) and 1 in the Ithaca area(Ithaca HS).
Does this just mean schools that have more STEM classes? Or like actual degree tracks for science/tech/engineering/math?
I know Brighton High School in the Rochester area which is ranked 44 in the country from that list as an example provides many STEM related electives for students. It's crazy what the students have the option of taking right in the school. As an example, they have Robotics classes.
McQuaid another Rochester area school just built a million dollar STEM and Robotics lab too.
