We all know NYC is one of the most recognizable cities in the world and has everything you are looking for and can want. Other than NYC, there's other cities and towns within the state of New York that I enjoy, like Buffalo, White Plains, Scarsdale, Croton on Hudson just to name a few.

However, one city that is just dreadfully dull, bland and plain to me is New Rochelle in Eastchester. New Rochelle isn't a terrible city at all but besides the nice campus of Iona College and a new park or two; the downtown area of New Rochelle is absolutely boring to me and void of any excitement, originality, personality and any feel of its own. Outside the downtown area there is certainly some beautiful real estate but the city center and/or downtown area of New Rochelle, I just find complete and utterly dole. The great thing is that its relatively safe and overall its a nice city in terms of its aesthetics but it just lacks so much to make it an interesting city.

I thought Albany was pretty dull until I've spent so more time in New Rochelle. At least in Albany there's some interesting things going on that I've personally been apart of. And it has some personality.

What cities in NY do you feel is the most dull?

Yeah Albany kind of blows given it's the state capital.

I consider most of Westchester to be dull, at least in terms of nightlife and any entertainment beyond picnicing and movies.

I put Croton and Scarsdale in the same class as New Rochelle. But ultimately, what does it matter since they are all about a half an hour on the train from the middle of Manhattan?

I think Croton and Scarsdale are actually quite nice and quaint! Scarsdale has some beautiful houses. I wouldn't consider Croton and Scarsdale cities though, they are much more like towns/hamlets within Westchester. As opposed to Yonkers, New Rochelle, Mount Vernon, White Plains which actually have towering buildings, downtown centers and tend to be major hubs of transportation.

Depends on where you hang out. It's gotten bad enough there that the Guardian Angels were up here a few days ago.

Idk why but New Rochelle sort of reminds me of a southern city when I drive around. It also looks pleasant to live in. Plus it’s not far from NYC!

Don't get me wrong, outside the downtown area and even within the downtown area there's beautiful houses and buildings with great architecture. There's plenty of very nice, quaint areas and there's some beautiful real estate. For me though, that's where it ends. Though, you are right, its not far from NYC at all.

New Rochelle to Grand Central is 35 minutes on Metro-North. That's better than a lot of people's subway time.
