I'm looking to move outside of the city and I see possibilities upstate and possibly as far as the South West. The cheapest spots I've seen along the MetroNorth are Waterbury and Bridgeport CT. Am I missing anything? Before I move too far away, I thought I would double check.

Port Jervis is cheap but if you look closely you'll see why.. What about Port Chester it runs more reasonable than the communities around it? What are you look for as a living situation?

What about places like Beacon or the town of Wallkill(Scotchtown, Mechanicstown, Washington Heights, etc.) outside of Middletown?

Thanks for reminding me about Beacon. I did see some lofts in Beacon at a good price in Hudson Valley magazine.

Peekskill. Not so cheap anymore, but a lot of good eats and pubs.

The Waterbury line barely runs - don't bother. You would be better off in Milford.

You can find something affordable in the Stamford area. Stamford offers great suburban living with a growing city center and a huge 4 story mall downtown. Only 45 minutes to GC on metronorth.
