Just stumbled on this. Seems like a decent idea, possibly.
Too little too late for me because we’re leaving NY but figured others might find this interesting.

There have been many of these proposals, including some posted on this forum over the years. I just wonder if they will consider the variety within each of these portions as well.

It would also be nice just to have an amendment to allow Big 5 school districts to consolidate into a countywide SD, if wanted.

Anything that cuts into power and/or money won’t happen.
This affects both.
“We the people” is out the window….

I don't hear any of the Big 5 districts calling for this. If they wanted it, they'd probably get it, so It looks like a moot point.

Another option would be to break up the large school districts into smaller districts, or even single schools. They could still belong to purchasing co-ops and maybe share, or outsource for other things such as Maintenance, etc. Competition is good.

They will never allow anything that makes sense, saves money, and benefits the people.

If anything, we have too many school districts and there are some in some of the big 5 communities that actually call for consolidating the city SD's into a countywide SD. An example in the Rochester area from a while ago that explains how the state constitution plays a part in that not being a possibility: A consolidated county school district is not in the cards.

There are 731 school districts in the state according to the NYSED Data Site: https://data.nysed.gov/

Wow. This thing has some steam behind it.
I thought it was another one of those eye roll attempts that everyone ignores, but it’s picking up traction in the news outlets.
Of course that doesn’t mean anything will come of it, but it’s got eyebrows raised.
