Albany came in 21st place out of the 150 most populous metro areas in the country. Syracuse was next in 38th place, with Rochester coming in 42nd place and Buffalo coming in 45th. NYC came in at 120th.

^The Capital Region has been growing in population slowly, but sure for decades now. I don’t think there would necessarily be a rush of people due to this list.

So, as one can see, it is a metro area/region that has grown at a steady rate for 40+ years.

All of upstate got labeled that way due to Buffalo losing about 250,000, and poor journalism. They always said "upstate is dying". Now that Buffalo has a spark of life, the "journalists" are saying "look at Buffalo", instead of all of upstate, like they did before.

I don't know if that was the only reason, because it has come from media within and outside of the state. So, some of them should know better.

It also likely came from the losses in many of the less populated counties too.
