Here is a video from the Buffalo History Channel about the B.U.I.L.D. Organization in the city and also mentions briefly the FIGHT Organization in Rochester:
https://youtube.com/watch?v=lxMr9cPUb60&feature=share

I believe at the time when these organizations were formed, Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse had probably the fastest growing black populations in the country from roughly the end of World War 2 until 1970.

An event coming up in Rochester next month: Minority Reporter – Artists Expand the Legacy of the Douglass Women in “As-I-Recall-Her”
Some information about a couple of the women that are the subject of the event: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anna_Murray_Douglass
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosetta_Douglass (her daughter: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freder..._Sprague_Perry )

Also, while this concert pianist/humanitarian was born in Winston-Salem NC, he grew up in Buffalo and primarily Syracuse: Celebration of Life Program for the Late Dr. Robert S. Pritchard II |
An interesting part of the write up: "As a young child, Pritchard moved with his family to New York. Along with many other African American families, the Pritchards left the South in search of a better life in the industrial North. Pritchard’s mother ultimately made the decision to leave so that her children would not be raised in the South’s harsh racial climate. The Pritchards settled in Buffalo which, at the time, offered one of the most promising job markets for African Americans. They were unable to find work, however, and moved to Syracuse. Starling, Pritchard’s father, found employment in the city’s burgeoning steel mills. Pritchard was also exposed to music at an early age. He was introduced to the piano by his father. (His father likely worked at a precursor of Crucible Steel in Solvay and I believe Mr. Pritchard lived in Baldwinsville for a while) This page in the 1945 Syracuse Central HS(now ITC) yearbook appears to show what may be siblings that were in the Orchestra and Glee Club at the time: https://www.classmates.com/siteui/ye...247275?page=30

Taking place in Corning, Ernie Davis Orange Out slated for Wednesday: https://www.mytwintiers.com/sports/e...for-wednesday/

Also, besides the Harriet Tubman Home in Auburn and the John W. Jones Home in Elmira, the Stephen and Harriet Myers Residence in Albany's predominantly black Arbor Hill neighborhood is another historical site for historians interested in Underground Railroad/black abolitionist history to visit: https://undergroundrailroadhistory.org/residence/

To connect some of the things already mentioned, this World War 1 soldier that was a part of the Harlem Hellfighters was also born in Winston-Salem NC, but later migrated to Albany: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_..._War_I_soldier)
This charter school in Albany is named after him: https://www.henryjohnsoncs.org/
