Default prison near plattsburgh--is this ok?

I am applying for a job at SUNY Plattsburgh.
When researching it found a maximum security prison is pretty close, does this impact the town at all?

The facility you're referring to is in Dannemora, about 15 miles away. You're likely to run into corrections officers at restaurants, at the mall, or if you're out hunting, but the ones I know are good people.
There are other correctional facilities, etc... in a 40-mile radius, and it's sadly a big part of the economy up here. But there aren't issues with escapees or anything like that. Maybe because there are so many COs and other law-enforcement types (FBI, INS, Border Patrol) who live up here because of the border, it's a very safe little city. There are college-town problems with partying and vandalism at times near campus, so if you can't deal with that, don't move to Center City.
Some people think the place is boring. But for fairly heavy-duty nightlife, Burlington is an hour away, and so is Montreal. And the outdoors around here is absolutely gorgeous.
Good luck with the job.

I grew up two blocks from the prison wall at Dannemora.. Most boring place in the world to be.

Like the previous poster said, there are plenty of prisons in the area. Nothing to worry about though.
